Do you know the difference between Alternative current (AC) and direct current (DC)? If not, no worries, you still can understand the answer to this article’s title. You can also check my article below to strengthen your knowledge about AC and DC current:

What is the difference between AC and DC current?

To understand why DC chargers charge faster, we must understand how a vehicle can charge. The part that needs to be charged inside the vehicle is called a battery. And guess what? A battery can only store and deliver DC current. More details about the battery can be found in my article below:

How a Battery works?

An electric vehicle has two different charge ports, one that can charge with alternative current (AC) and another one used only for direct current (DC).

When you plug your cable and start charging with DC current, the flow of electricity is not converted and goes directly to the battery. But when using an AC charger the electricity must be converted inside the vehicle to DC current. Thus more time is needed. This is the first reason why DC Electric vehicle chargers charge faster.

Nowadays, the market can offer a DC charger that can reach a power of 400 KW. For the AC, the usual charging speed is 22 KW. This is the second reason why DC charger charge faster.
